Emergency Alert: Pursuing ideological policy will hurt
Baby, it’s cold outside, (if you haven’t noticed.)
If you don’t pay attention, (if you don’t notice,) when it’s frightfully cold outside you may end up getting hurt. Think it’s wise to go outside with just a T-shirt and sandals because you don’t notice the thermometer needle pressing against the lower stopper? You may lose some toes, or worse. Albertans, and most Canadians come to think of it, have historically been forced to pay attention to their surroundings, prepare themselves and plan in order to live through the winter. If you think about it, that’s really what made the prairie provinces the way they are- we are forced, by nature, to be the ant instead of the grasshopper, (if you have not already familiarized yourself with that story please do so now.)
You should also pay attention the incoming climate policy that’s going to hurt you.
During the colonial days when people flooded to the west for new opportunity it was a must to prepare. Those hard working men and women spent every sunny day chopping wood, building barns, hauling water, processing food etc etc etc so that when the snow and minus ridiculous came they could survive. That mindset has been passed on from generation to generation, resulting in the tenacious, can-do attitude that we commonly see across the prairies. Our ancestors would not have survived, and we would not exist, if they did not pay attention to their surroundings and plan accordingly.
You had better prepare yourself by learning how to take back control of your futures.
What we’re seeing these days is the complete opposite of what we should be doing to survive as a species. You must, by now, be familiar with the emergency alert that was issued by the government of Alberta on January 13th regarding our electricity situation. Albertans were asked, in 2024, to limit their energy use so that our grid didn’t fail. The government of Saskatchewan had to intervene and provide us with 153 mega-watts of electricity so that we could continue to heat our homes during this cold snap of down to -46 Celsius.
I’ll take a moment to remind you all that there were people who cold not access any energy for heat, and they died over the last few days due to exposure.
Alberta has an almost unlimited amount of energy stored beneath our feet. We have found, and seen real-life examples of how hydrocarbons are not, “fossil fuels,” at all, but instead it appears that they may be a semi-renewable resource. Did I just trigger you? You’re welcome. As of the time I write this Alberta has an estimated 188 years of oil in reserve, including ONLY provable reserve. If you’re not already aware, our available oil reserves go up, not down, due to technological innovation. We have never been at risk of running out of oil, and it is very likely that we never will. Technological advancements and increasing efficiency resulting in lowering consumption far out pace our increased consumption of hydrocarbons. Canada has an estimated 200 years, (although some experts say closer to 1000 years when considering advancing tech,) of natural gas in proven reserves. We’ve also see that natural gas is not a fossil fuel, but rather it can form during a very short time. Take for instance garbage to methane plants! Or, look at the info from the Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980- we are seeing the formation of the early stages of coal and natural gas in what used to be spirit lake. 1980 was not that long ago.
But what about CO2? What about climate change? If we don’t act NOW the earth will be on fire by 2016! (Al Gore, an Inconvenient Truth.)
In Great Britain there was, and still is, a fad that’s saving the planet, (or so they say.) Biomass power generation. In simple terms- burning wood and other biological matter to create heat, and energy. These days anytime you mention burning something Prime Minister Fancy Socks steps in and taxes you for it. Yes, we pay a tax on, of all things, the air we exhale- Carbon Dioxide. So why is the Biomass idea so well recieved? Do those power plants not emit CO2? If you ask that question you’ll be told that it’s a net-zero operation since the CO2 that’s being released was in the atmosphere, and absorbed by the tree, and the use of the tree simply puts the CO2 back into the atmosphere.
Isn’t that the same thing that happens when you burn natural gas? A plant absorbs CO2, uses it to form sugars and starches, an animal eats it, and both the plant and animal eventually end up in the dirt. In some cases they’re buried beneath a world-wide-flood amount of sediment, (see what I did there?) and end up, “natural gas, or oil.” The Carbon that was once in the atmosphere is now a hydrocarbon through a natural process, (that seems almost intelligently designed,) and is now ready to be used by us to heat our homes or power our cars. Carbon neutral.
I will be bold and say that ANY use of ANY type of hydrocarbon fuel is carbon neutral since the Carbon was, at one time in the atmosphere already. At least according to current scientific consensus.
Let’s get back to Alberta, and why the Emergency Alert was so insulting.
WHY, in God’s name are we concerned about lack of energy in Alberta? WHY do we pay such an insane amount of money for our energy? The answer is simple- it’s because we can’t live without it. Those in power, those that can tax us and reap the benefits, (for our own safety,) LOVE to tax us on things we can’t live without. Ever hear an NDP advocate talk about taxes? They tell you that you’ll die if a conservative lowers taxes because you won’t be able to access a doctor ever again. The “inconvenient truth,” is that cheap and abundant energy sources have increased human flourishing, our quality AND length of life, and prosperity more than anything else in history. At least it’s inconvenient for those who wish to leave our oil in the ground. What does that tell you about those who want to return us to the dark ages by taxing our energy into oblivion? What do they really want?
No, really. What do you really want, Klaus?
Alberta has HUGE deposits of coal, huge natural gas reserves, and huge oil deposits. We have so much energy in this province that it should be free. I really mean that. If we were allowed to develop and export our resources free of interference from left-wing ideological lunatics like Trudeau and Gilbeault we would be so prosperous that we could afford to access our resource, for free. We should have the strongest energy network in the world. We should be able to grow food year-round, in huge greenhouses powered by natural gas. If you want to reduce our impact, imagine not having to import food from Mexico, or China in the winter here in Alberta. That’s a lot of tail-pipes not belching NOX. No senior should EVER have to stress about their energy bill.
We received that “Emergency Alert,” Because we’ve allowed our governments to run amuck pursuing junk science-based ideological policy that strips our prosperity from us. We have a Federal government here in Canada, where we see temperatures dipping close to -50C, to tell us that we shouldn’t use the energy sources that keep us alive. They’ve implemented legislation that tells us that we have to drive electric cars, while we see our provincial government warn us that our power grid can’t handle our current power needs.
How will we charge our electric cars when the power grid can’t even support our current need? How could we stay warm using heat pumps that only work to -25, and put an even greater load on our grid? You may not like the answer. It’s one of those things where Occams’ razor cuts away the bull-shit and leaves only the truth-
We are not intended to drive cars, or heat our homes at all. We are intended to limit our impact, our existence, to that which those who are above the rules see fit. We should live in densely populated 15 minute cities where it’s not necessary to drive, or travel at all. We are useless eaters and will be treated as such.
Unless we say no.
NO.
It’s time to start paying attention and get involved where you can. Its time to demand that our policy ensures Human Flourishing and Prosperity at ALL COSTS. If we don’t take action then this recent emergency alert will be just the tip of the iceberg. Pun intended.
